Been A Month...

...since we got married. The first 2 weeks it hasn't really dawned on me that I am a married woman now, as I was still in to Penang to work on an assignment, life was normal, living with my family like it was before I got hitched.

But I asked for a transfer to the firm's branch in KL, and I'll report to work tomorrow. So nervous... the feeling is like going for the first day at school. I did this before, I've worked in KL but somehow the 2 years-odd of working in Penang has made me more laidback and sort of take things pretty easier on life...and to move back to the hectic KL...

Right now am living with the in-laws...I have been here before, but before I was a guest. Now I am part of the household. It sure feels different... My Mom told me to help MIL out as much as I can especially in the kitchen department. Mom knows I am not that handy in the kitchen... Well I could only try to do my best... Basuh-basuh pinggan or potong-potong bawang OK la... Nak masak a complete dish... That is challenging I think... If cook for the hubby alone I can manage... But the whole household... :O

Too many things to cope with in the past one month and few months to come... Working in KL (in the possibly worst service line to work in, in terms of working hours - auditing), living with the in-laws, leaving my life and family back in Penang, being a married woman... I hope I am given the strength to go through these things and make me feel at home, at heart.

The Reception (KL): 27.12.09

I love my KL reception...I felt really welcomed into the new extended family. Hubby's relatives, were so friendly and warm towards me. We spent quite a long time going round from one table to the other to meet with the guests. To me, the whole event was every bit special in its own way.

Sangat terharu that the MIL planned and turned the event into such a sweet one mostly all on her own. So terharu sampai by the time I was to go back to Penang few days after, I cried when salam2 and thanking them for the wonderful ceremony. Hubby was tersengih2 seeing my crying. The FMIL were like, ehh rilek2 jgn nangis2! *Shoot me pls for being so emotional!*

I had a great time meeting hubby's grandma, grandaunts, granduncles, uncles, aunties, 80++ cousins (that's a lot, rite!) and I was not that stressed up as during my side of the reception.

More of the stories later, here are some pics. Enjoy!

The pelamin provided by the dewan. Having planned the event on her own, MIL wanted everything to be hassle-free, hence choose je the pelamin provided in one of the dewan's packages. But in the end the pelamin is not bad, kan. Sesuai dengan majlis menyambut menantu. Simple and nice.

I love this picture :)

I also love my baju for the majlis bertandang. Cream-colored songket with beaded light gold lace on top of the songket. And I prefer my makeup for the KL reception much, much more, compared to my Penang one (will write about the makeup later on).

Date: 27 December 2009
Venue: Dewan Merak Kayangan, KL
Time: 12.30pm - 4.30pm

*Emotional balik*

The Reception (Penang): 20.12.09

After the nikah, we had to rush to get ready for the reception which was held on the very same afternoon. While getting ready, I was totally regretting the decision to have both ceremonies in 1 day. I mean, what was I thinking?!!

But in the end, it all went pretty well. Of course, there were some shortcomings here and there (small ones, nothing major, Alhamdulillah) but I suppose those imperfections made the wedding a perfect one, at least to both of us.

Okay, some piccies from the reception at the Penang side:

Date: 20 December 2009
Venue: Setia Pearl Island, Penang
Time: 12.30 pm - 4.30 pm
Will write more about the ceremonies later...

The Nikah: 20.12.09

It's been 22 days since we were married, now only have I got the time to update! Been very busy, with absolutely everything! Right after the nikah is the reception on that very same day which left us both knackered and all flat-out at the end of the day! The day after next we went on a pre-honeymoon to Cameron Highlands (have always loved the place! Going there again this CNY hihi) and then we were busy with the KL reception the following weekend.

After that, being the year-end and all, yours truly have to report to work, being the much-hated miss auditor.

Now only got the time *sigh*

Anyway, this is one of the pictures taken from the nikah ceremony.

Date: 20 December 2009
Venue: Masjid Negeri, Pulau Pinang
Time: 9.00 am - 10.00 am

Penang Wedding Venues

A week after my wedding, my bridesmaid, Anis, who is my good friend since Form 1, announced that she is getting engaged. I was so shocked, how dare she kept it a secret from me until the very last minute!! But she being my good friend, of course I could not stay mad at her for so long. Her engagement took place on 10.01.10. Nice date!

Anyway we went scouting for venues for her reception, which is going to be either June or August. But as we went from one venue to the other, the date no longer matters. Book aja whenever dates yang ada kosong! *sedih kan*

So below are the popular venues for majlis kahwin yang sederhana kosnya. Minta maaf, kami tak pergi survey hotel-hotel sebab memang tidak termasuk di dalam budget.

DEWAN SRI PINANG

PLUS:

1. Sewa murah; RM800 untuk 4 jam, siang atau malam. Tapi yang slacknya harga tu hanya untuk sewa ruang legar saja (not the auditorium, tapaknya yang kat ruang legar di groundfloor yang memang takda air-cond. But I kind of like it sebab rasa lapang dan luas)

2. Parking untuk guests agak banyak

3. One of Penang's landmarks, hampir 100% orang Penang tahu dewan ni kat mana. Right smack in the town, tak yah nak sesat2

MINUS:

1. Kalau nak tambah kerusi atau meja kena tambah duit, per set table dan kerusi 10 biji harga bermula dari RM15 dan ke atas. RM15 tu untuk meja bulat dengan lapik meja plastik dan kerusi plastik. We asked for banquet chairs tapi officer tu cakap banquet chairs memang takda.

2. Anis ruled out the venue sebab dia open air (panas katanya) dan kerusi dan meja yang plastik.

3. Oh ya, setiap facility akan dicaj. Pemasangan lampu chandelier, PA system, red carpet, even orang nak datang pasang pelamin pun akan dicaj RM50 per hour. In the end, we calculated that we have to pay about RM2k kalau nak sewa situ. Na ah, not worth it, considering what we will get.

FORT CORNWALLIS (PADANG KOTA)

PLUS:

1. A great venue for a garden wedding. Very beautiful and scenic, with the remnants of the historic British colonialisation. They will provide a venue inside the walls of the Fort Cornwallis, and they will close the place from the visitors if you hold the wedding there.

MINUS:

1. Memang la garden wedding sangat menjadi idaman ramai orang, tapi bear in mind, holding such event in Malaysia and its weather, boleh berpeluh satu hari. Tambah pula Penang is way up North, lagi panas tau!

3. Sewa agak mahal, dalam RM2k. Tapak saja.

RECSAM (TEA GARDEN)

PLUS:

1. Sewa murah; RM400 untuk 3 jam pertama. Subsequent hour, RM50. Termasuk meja, kerusi dengan lapik meja.

MINUS:

1. Not much of a garden, more like a canteen

SETIA PEARL ISLAND

PLUS:

1. Ample parking space, multi-level carpark.

2. Very nice grand ballroom! Fully-carpeted (masih nampak baru), beautiful chandeliers. Nice lobby, wonderful view as it is atop of a small hill overlooking Penang International Airport.

3. Professional people managing the place, which is owned by SP Setia Bhd.

4. Complimentary VIP room, spacious balcony annexed to the grand ballroom where you can have your buffett lines laid out (if you opt for buffett) and it feels like you have an indoor-outdoor wedding ceremony.

5. They also rent out "The View", an open-air restaurant which has the similar great view.

6. 2010 price: RM3,500 for the Grand Ballroom and RM2,500 for The View

MINUS:

1. A bit far, and the drive uphill could be a bit too much for Penangites who are so used to have everything and everywhere within reach

2. Can opt for their in-house caterer, but if you wish to bring outside caterer need to pay RM300

KOMPLEKS TABUNG HAJI BAYAN LEPAS, PENANG

PLUS:

1. Tetamu dari luar kawasan boleh menyewa bilik2 dekat Kompleks Tabung Haji ni, starts from RM110 if I'm not mistaken

2. Complimentary 1 room for a night's stay

3. Fully air-conditioned hall

4. Sewa dalam RM1,300 for 4 hours. But yesterday the officer told us that they are revising the rental charge, and to come up with packages which includes catering, pelamin, deco, etc.

MINUS:

1. The location is a bit far, way in Bayan Lepas (5-min drive from the previous Setia Pearl Island)

2. Kena choose daripada panel caterers (tak boleh bawa masuk caterer luar)

KOMPLEKS MASYARAKAT PENYAYANG

PLUS:

1. Cheap, around RM700 for 4 hours, inclusive PA system and other facilities and tables and chairs for 500pax.

2. Good location, in the town

3. Ample parking space for guests

4. Good news - the flooring yang bertampal2 dengan cellotape sudah ditukar! Now is a nice and clean wooden flooring.

MINUS:

1. Need to choose catering from their panel caterers

2. The management is a bit "kerek", we dealt with this very unhelpful and unfriendly lady, who suggested we go find other places when there are no suitable dates available

3. Sometimes when there are other functions at the other rooms, the parking lots can be insufficient

Tu je kot. Will write more if I come across other good venues.

My Baju... :(

My reception dress is not yet ready, and it is 4 days towards the wedding... :(

The tailor promised to get it ready on the 12th (it's actually ready but waiting for the beads to be sewn on the dress) but when I called yesterday, she was like saying that she promised to hand it to me on the 20th. I said...cannot be la...20th is the day of my wedding...you promised me on the 12th la...I so regret for not calling her earlier, like last week or something...

And so she said she will get the beadings done by Thursday (17th). Is it possible for beadings to be done in 2 days time? We're talking abt the whole baju here...I was at the shop today and I saw the baju still togel without the beads. Oh pls tell me is it possible? :( We all know what will happen if something is done is such a haste...

That is the only major thing which is bugging me right now...the rest of the items...alhamdulillah semuanya OK...

Down to 8

OK, it's down to 8 days now. Slightly more than a week to go.

Hmm let's see what else pending?

1. Pick up the dress from the dressmaker.

2. Finish up the VIP doorgifts...also searching for a label printing shop here in Penang....

3. Finalising the number of guests to the caterer.

4. Decorate the hantaran. Sigh, hope I'll turn creative this coming 1 week.

5. Self-pampering --> other than excessive sleep, do I really have to go to the spa? I mean, does 1 visit really make a difference? Pls advise me...

Hmm...what else?

I am happy...but scared nevertheless...hope everything will be allright...

ps: I am really honoured to those who are making extra big effort to travel up north to be at my wedding... Love you guys! :)
